I am an anthropologist and college professor living happily with my wife (pghkitten), two kittens (Eris and Mina), several incorporeal entities (minimally Escobar and Ezakel), and numerous stuffed animals with well-developed personalities in a century-old house in Pittsburgh, PA. I have my master's degree in physical anthropology but, due to professional politics that resulted in both my username and my essential expulsion from my field, have ended up teaching biology and history of science, which turns out to be immense fun and extremely fulfilling. I have a deep interest in the human condition in all its many manifestations, partially born out of my nature as a scientist studying human evolution, partially out of my empathy and desire to understand those around me; my exploration of the nature of our kind takes me wandering into fields ranging from biochemistry to philosophy, although I tend to ground in anthropology, evolutionary biology, and history most of the time. I'm heterosexual, polyamorous, omnivorous, very liberal on most matters political, an ordained Universal Life minister and practitioner of a self-designed religion that is more spiritual than theological and shares much in common with Unitarian Universalism and Neo-Paganism, and generally openminded about just about everything that doesn't involve hurting another human being. I am an unapologetic geek in love with fantasy and science fiction, including movies, books, and RPGs, and am the DM of several story-based D&D campaigns set on Galon and Kaerith, two fantasy worlds of my own creation that have been gradually growing and developing since I was 12. I write fantasy fiction in my spare time (or would, if I had spare time), and in addition to RGPs, enjoy video games, table games, anime, outdoor activities, reading, long conversations, the occult and paranormal, theatre (watching and participating), gaming and anime conventions, geocaching, and a wide variety of other activities and subjects. My world is a strange one in which midnight philosophy is not just for college, the laws of chance are repealed, and the spirits of the dead are a conventional part of daily reality. But I wouldn't have it any other way.
